‘A necklace and a sunflower.’ Kavir Mootoo, 2020. Hand-painted One-off 100% cotton previously-owned blouse. *L*
This is from my new collection ‘CHOICES’.
The strong floral pattern in this blouse gave me something to work with. I liked the colours and the pink made me think of using….well, the colour ‘blue’…
On the front, a necklace inspired this work.
On the back, I wanted something different from the front (a different look when you’re walking away than when you’re facing someone). Recent work from designer Alexander McQueen, a sunflower from my garden (why stop with the existing florals – let’s expand this garden!!!!) inspired this work.
There is so much space left on this. There are all those shapes that can be filled, dotted, made bigger, outlined with silver or gold or both or blue or black or green. The question marks hint at this.
It can then be made short-sleeved and then cut into a vest.
This is my vision of what sustainable fashion could be.
